Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
